The Big Read in Central Illinois
The Big Read is a nationwide reading initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) designed to restore reading to the center of American culture. The NEA presents The Big Read in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services, in cooperation with Arts Midwest, and with different community partners across the country to provide engaging educational resources for discussing outstanding literature.

Family Reading Night
Family Reading Night is celebrated annually in Illinois on the third Thursday in November. Family Reading Night is a statewide event when families are encouraged to spend quality time reading together.

Illinois Emerging Writers
The purpose of the Illinois Emerging Writers Competition is to promote creative writing, encourage local writers and provide a unique opportunity and outlet for recognizing new literary talent. Winners receive cash prizes and have their works submitted for review and possible publication in several Illinois literary magazines.

Letters About Literature
A national reading and writing promotion for children and young adults sponsored by the Illinois Center for the Book in cooperation with the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress in partnership with Target.

Read for a Lifetime
Read for a Lifetime is the first statewide reading program to target high school students. The primary goal of the program is to promote the enjoyment of reading, by encouraging students to read both classic and contemporary literature, and rewarding them for their effort.

Reflections on a Veteran
This competition is intended to provide students with real connections to U.S. veterans, past and present. The goal is to help cultivate a deeper understanding and appreciation of history and the sacrifices made by all veterans, their families and communities.
