Unless exempt under the law, a business opportunity is required to be registered with the Secretary of State prior to any offer or sale. As defined under the Business Opportunity Sales Law of 1995, a business opportunity is commenced when it is agreed that the seller will provide to the purchaser to start a business and the purchaser is required to pay the seller more than $500 within a period of six months. All sellers of a business opportunity are required to deliver a disclosure document to each consumer at least ten(10) business days prior to executing a contract or agreement.
